Banda

Whatever happened to the popular bands of the 90's? I really don't know.As long as I still enjoy their music, hindi ko na aalamin.

I was in college when the E-heads made it big with their alternative music. "Ligaya","With A Smile" and "Ang Huling El Bimbo" were the perennial tunes at that time. "Ligaya" was forbidden for my grade school cousins due to the "offensive" lyrics.
Most of them used to perform at Club Dredd in QC or in Mayric's near Espana (Manila shempre). Some of the bands or groups made famous by their songs are:

A) Put3Ska-name was from a Tagalog slang for you know what (bleep). Music nila is parang reggae pero rock. Hahaha! They are known for "Manila Girl" ("Flashing like lightnin, my head in a spin..."). Everytime I hear the song on flashback tunes every Sunday, can't help but sing along.

B) The Youth-mix alternative and punk rock. Vocalist was Dodong. Known for "Multo sa Paningin" (or Multong Bakla). "Mare mayron kang bisita, may kasangkapan para isanla..." Hahaha! Love them! Also the "Basura" (Tapon, tapon, tapon niyo, basura niyo, itapon niyo) to the tune of "Fur Elise".

C) True Faith- the petite Medwin made the band very big in the 90's. Their song "Perfect" was a sure hit. Followed by "Muntik ng Maabot ang Langit". I love playing this while reviewing.

D) Sugar Hiccup- The hypnotic hum as an intro of the song "Five Years" , will make you think what is at the end. The simple melody is catchy.Only 6 words for the lyrics ("But he will never be back"), or 7/8 if you will include "Aaaaaah-aaaaah". It's followed by the "mega-decibel" screech of electric guitar and ascending humming of the vocalist. I still love this! Calling the producers of Twilight Saga! You may include the song in the sountdtrack.

More bands came out in the mid and late 90's due to the popularity of alternative music. Some made it for a year and most were forgotten or disbanded years later. Rivermaya, The Dawn, Eraserheads, Color It Red, Afterimage, The Dawn. Some survived like the Parokya ni Edgar with "indio looking" members and the mestizo group of "Wolfgang".

Rock is staying forevah!Rock on!
