ManWall

Ladies, have you ever wondered what goes on inside men's locker rooms?  How exactly do men converse when women are not around?  Are you curious, perhaps on what exactly are manly no-holds-barred take on some girly subject.  Generally, they would not be talking about the latest scoop on the Angelina Jolie-Brad Pitt-Jennifer Aniston love triangle, and definitely not about the upcoming movie on the last part of the Twilight series.  Na-a-ah.

Here's your chance to find out.  Click here.

Yup, you got it right.  It is the facebook for men!

Dubbed as "The Ultimate Social Network for Guys."

So, just FYI.

The tale of the torn 100 dollar bill

Once upon a time, there was a beggar named Ishika.  She lived in Mumbai.  One Sunday evening, she and her fellow beggars were begging as usual outside a mall in Andheri, a suburb of Mumbai city.  Suddenly, she saw a foreigner lady with blonde hair in a fancy car.  She was about to approach her for money, but the lady called Ishika herself and handed over a note.

Ishika has never seen a note like that before.  She asked several people on the road if they could give her some cash in exchange for it.  That was when she came to know that the note was called a dollar, and that she was given a 100 dollar bill.

Google Images

So Ishika gave the note to her brother-in-law and asked him to exchange them for some rupiahs the following day.

Google Images

But as soon as Ishika got home, her relatives began demanding that the money be shared with them.  Ishika tried to explain that it was a gift.  Some of the relatives started beating her up, trying to grab the note.

Frustrated with the bickering and all the confusion and unhappiness caused by the 100 dollar note, Ishika's brother-in-law tore it up.  Later, when he found out the value of the note, he regreted his action.

It turned out that the foreigner was a celebrity who was visiting Mumbai to promote her handbag and accessories line.  Her act of giving the note was caught on camera and the beggars were allegedly followed by some journalists, who allegedly interviewed them and posted the story on the net.

The foreigner was no other than Paris Hilton!

Meanwhile, Paris read the story and tweeted:

This makes me go aaaawwwww.

Pedring (Ondoy's cousin)

September 27, 2011 is like an ordinary stormy work day for me.
On my way, a tree just fell along the road fronting TUP.No flood and no traffic. And I forgot my cellphone. Grrr... Good thing, BH brought his and he agreed to lend me the same.

Well, Y and Z were both not around! Inggit!!!
I had a usual chit-chat with "eager to go home" fellows at the office. AB even saw me having coffee.
He was wearing the usual "kerokerokeroppi"outfit, kinda agitated for lack of sleep, i guess.

from yahoo image

My nightmare started around 930am. I heard about the new beach along Roxas Boulevard. Oh no!
At 10am, the gods and goddesses above the corporate ladder decided to send the "obreros" home.
I took a quick peek outside and saw toppled trees. Windy outside but I'll survive, I said.

I tried to contact BH. He called me around 1030am and told me that the street going to my work is impassable except for trucks . "HUWAAAATT?" That's impossible coz there's no traffic not even gutter deep flood. BH asked me just to stay in the office and he'll stay where he is. Objection! Okay stubborn, then cross the street and find it out yourself.

Well I did with some officemates. I saw this!

Roxas Blvd. infront of Manila Hotel

This was taken by BH using my cellphone camera (which I forgot earlier).
Ondoy's water was from rain. Pedring's deluge was from the sea.
I was screaming as each gust of air pounds my face. I saw the trees come alive and imagine the swaying electric posts and wires as creatures smiling evilly at me- as if ridiculing my helplessness.
Not even Shamcey can defeat my "tsunami' walk.Promise!!!

Lesson learned. Never go to work when it's Signal No. 2.

my daily dose of calcium

I am so afraid of osteoporosis.  I have one lola who got one.

Lately, I have been experiencing pain on my left knee.  I don't know if it's because I've been wearing heels a lot lately, or if it's because I was just at my heaviest (at least after pregnancy several years ago).

But I don't want to take Calcium supplements in tablets or capsule.

That is why, for a week now, I have been eating 1 cup of fruit yogurt and 1 tetrapack of milk.

This one has 16% RDA of Calcium.

And this one has 86%!

So that's 100% calcium everyday.  I hope it is not too late to stack up on Calcium for my bones...

As to Vitamin C, I have also stopped taking capsules or supplements.  I guess I will follow Z's hubby's example, 1 can of pineapple juice a day.

who's in a song?

I was thinking hard since I got to work on what to write as my first post this week. In my mind, names just started to pop like bubbles which started with "Onyok" and "Pedring".
Surprisingly,  I started to hum some tunes with names as titles. I was humming "Michelle" by the Beatles before Z called to show me and Y her new discoveries from "le Di've" ( i.e.Divi). I will give her the honor of posting it soon... Hahaha!

from google image

After the demo, I returned to my little nook, and I was actually singing "Aubrey" (by Bread). A weird day!

This is the funniest of all. I'm sure both Y and Z will L-O-L upon reading this post.

I received an email forwarded by AB that originated from his friend. The usual, it's "tsunami" email that made AB's day, I'm sure. I started to sing (in my mind only) M A T I L D A. It's an old song I used to hear playing from our old "radyo pono". It's in an album (the long playing disc the size of a plate) with the song "Mockingbird Hill" and "The Wedding".

I forgot who the singer was but will research it in Google later (or "goggle"). As far as I can recall (as I was singing it),  lyrics are:

"Ma-til-da, Ma-til-da, Ma-til-da, she took my money and ran to Venezuela. Everybody!"

from imdb

Wohooo! I'm toast!!!

" X , X, Bo-X
Banana Fanna Fo-X,
Fi Fie Fo-X..."

X

X, that album with Mockingbird Hill and Wedding is that of Patti Page!  Tralala, tweedle-dee-dee!  I went to your wedding...  Brings back memories.  Pero wala kaming radyo pono.  We call it "stereo component," hehe.

yummy: quarter cheese

not all mcdonald's quarter pounder with cheese burgers are created equal . . .the juiciest served at mcdo-kabihasnan. best would be to find an excuse to make them cook a new one for you and say that you are willing to wait . . . like you are allergic to pickles or something . . . or Y's smart excuse that does not need the drama -- she does not want ketchup on her burger (which is not true because she puts ketchup later on . . .wahaha!) . . .

Z

OMG!  Winner to Z!  I can imagine the juice oozing out from the beef, bite after bite.

But nalang na-discover nyo to.

Nung una, I  just asked them to cook a new quarter pounder for me.  They obliged, but there was this one time when, feeling ko, hindi na ganun ka-bagong luto, so I tried that drama that I don't want any ketchup in my quarter pounder.  So papanindigan ko nalang yun.

Kung meron kayong monthly visit sa McDo branch na 'to, ako tuwing masama ang loob ko, dumadaan ako dun!  Recently, napapadalas!  Hahaha!

But yeah, that feeling that I get after my McDo Kabihasnan Quarter Pounder and Coke Light Float -- PRICELESS!!!

friday musings

It's Friday dress-down at the office, and I am wearing a maxi-dress, a pink leaf bandeau maxi dress with ruched waist detail, now on sale for £10.00 only at DP website.

It's made of 100% viscose fabric, so it's really soft like a blanket and it feels "like a touuuuch from a rosssssse! and it thrills me, thrills me..." Hahaha!  Sorry, sinapian ako ni Anne Curtis..

Speaking of, have you seen the trailer of No Other Woman?  It is an upcoming movie which stars Derek Ramsey, Cristine Reyes and Anne Curtis.  In the trailer, the mother of Christine Reyes (played by Carmi Martin) was shown advising Cristine, as she agonizes over her husband's affair, and it goes something like "Itago mo na si Lucy Torres at ilabas si Gretchen Barretto at ang red stilleto heels."  Hahaha, I wouldn't have understood what she meant had she not mentioned red stilleto heels!  I mean, personally, I would rather wish to sort out a problematic situation from the point of view of Lucy Torres, and not Gretchen Barretto's.  Sorry there!!!

I want to watch this one, if only only to see, first, Anne Curtis whose face I find as stunningly beautiful, and second, Derek Ramsey in corporate clothes (coat, tie and all).  Hehe.  I just find it a bit annoying that he's always in sando or topless.  #manang  ;-)  Sorry again, nasobrahan ata ako sa Vitamin B today.

chillax in a traffic jam

Do you love or hate this?

Let me guess. . .grrrr?!. . .
You "grrrrr!!" it too much that you end up getting a motorcycle and mingle like this. . .

Joyful isn't it? Hahaha! That's why you decide to get in to this. . .

But still, the terminal is outside the route to your work. So you have no choice but to take this. . .

Poor horsey... or this. . .

Any means just to get to your work without you behind the steering wheel.

I saw this article from yahoo. They're developing a "driverless car" in Germany. It has a scanner on top, with GPS and the works. So you don't have to worry making turns and swerves. That means, you can log on to FB on your way to work or read your morning paper  (or even take a nap).

Wow! Once available in the market, I'm sure both Y and Z will be jumping on a tarpaulin (trampoline pala) celebrating their freedom from endless agony brought by Manila traffic. I'm lucky to be exempted (because I can't drive, hahaha). That's why I enjoy traffic (when i'm not in a hurry) especially when I munch some street goodies (shingaling, mani, etc.) and watch this kind of entertainment in the busy streets of the city....

Hahaha! Chillax ...!

fallen

When I hear the word "satellite", the first thing that comes to my mind is a round plate-like object that gives my TV a very clear reception (pre-Digibox days)

Readers who remember this photo will probably be as young as I am. Hahaha!
from yahoo image

Alright, that's Skylab. Remember the collision scare in the late 70's? Yup, Skylab re-entered Earth in late 70's and there was panic everywhere. Repent! Repent! Of course, it came back... nobody was hurt. Many blamed the re-entry on the mighty sun (increased solar activity).

Last Sunday, I saw an article on a satellite that will re-enter Earth this week. Readers, repent, repent!

yahoo image
It is called UARS or Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite. According to NASA, it was launched 20 years ago to study the ozone layer. Now, it's coming back. Does this mean the research is done and we don"t have any ozone layer left? Ohhh, repent, repent!Take cover! Hurry!

Actually, there is a min ute chance that it will hit any populated area and the parts will burn in the atmosphere before hitting the ground. Last advice from Nasa is that, some parts will likely hit Australia by Friday or Saturday (Manila time). Please bring your helmets when you wander around.

If by chance calculations could go wrong, and Philippines will be included in the new coordinates, it's far better to be ready with your helmets or "kawali" o "kaldero" ni Lola.

At least for a day, junkshop industry will boom on this side of the globe.Imagine titanium falling from the sky.Who knows, Superman may even be on board!

Bato-bato sa langit, ang tamaan di umilag!

yummy! ...or maybe, iwi!

i used to be quite successful in experimenting at the kitchen until last night when this was the result. . .

looks like okoy-cum-tikoy. . .well, it's not . . .

it should have been my favorite ilocos empanada.

my version was super oily, gooey and tikoy-ish . . .iwi!  actually, there were crunchy portions and that with the rest of the ingredients tasted good. . . still, it was a mega disaster . . . pang national geographic! . . .blame it to X who gave me the recipe for the dough! bwahaha! everything was spot on until i was about to slowly drop the empanada in hot cooking oil . . .the dough started to crumble and all hell broke loose before it reached the pan . . .thus, the result.

our household help, F, talked to hubby this morning:  "kuya, pakibili mo na lang lagi si ate nung empanada.  parang nag tsunami sa kusina kagabi sa dami ng inilabas na gamit tsaka 1 litro ng mantika ang ginamit para sa 1 empanadang mukhang nilupak na maruya . . "   tsk . . .tsk . . .

i feel that this will be a very long and winding road to perfection . . .

Z

Z, it looks yummy for an okoy.Or, yes! F was right. It's maruya, okay!!! Bwahahaha! Peace! You're not alone. I tried that rice flour too, days ago. Same results. BH tried to ease my frustration by using flour instead. Shape was okay but when you sink in your teeth for the first bite, it's like eating donut with a filling! Another wahaha! Good luck to us. Can't wait for Y to try it too.

fab! alert

If you're hunting for clutch bags, you might want to consider the Tasha Sequin Frame Minaudiere, now sold at Nordstrom for USD98 or Php4,561.69.

Also available in Black/Gold.

The price is not so bad for a clutch which is rated 5 out of 5 by the Bagopedia:

It is hard to find a handsome evening clutch with an afford price tag. Bagopedia thinks that I have found one. Even better than affordable, it is under-affordable. The paint effect look is a smart way to use sequins (I know it is not the original design). It adds interests to a totally black (or silver) clutch. The chain is not necessary but nice to have. The hook can also be hidden. It is quite amazing how this bag is put together for this price range.
I, on the other hand, will resist purchasing this one, as I just panic-bought 2 clutch bags from Accessorize a couple of months ago, when they were on sale.  Taking from the philosophy of my friend J, I can "simplify my life" and live on these 2 for the meantime.

I have this black lace clutch:

and this chiffon pleat clutch, but in white color:

Both come with a metal shoulder strap, just like the Tasha above.

Happy clutch-hunting!

my secret wish list

Dear X and Z:

This is really me and this is not spam.  wehehe.

My birthday is near and so is Christmas!  I know you love me, and will only want the best gift for me.  And for that, I just want to make your lives easier, so that you don't have to go through sleepless nights, thinking of what I really want.

Did you know that you can now give Kindle books as a gift?  Here's the link on how to do that.

I will e-mail to you in private my Kindle Wish List.

Ever since I had my Kindle in late 2009, I have been using it a lot.  I've read the following on it:
1.  Eat, Pray, Love
2.  The Devil Wears Prada
3.  The Velveteen Rabbit
4.  House of Night Series
5.  Vampire Academy Series
6.  Caravans by James Michener
7.  The Indolence of the Filipino by Jose Rizal
8.  Mockingjay, the Final Book of the Hunger Games series
9.  How to Hepburn by Karen Garbo
10.  True Prep by Birnback and Kidd

My point is, I will put your gift to good use.

By the way, Z has given me my advance birthday gift, and I really love it.  It's my foremost ja-porms gear now. hehehe.  So, Z, puedeng sa Christmas mo nalang ako regaluhan ng Kindle Book.  Wahahaha!

Mwah.

Ilocano 103 (Cancion)

You're right! It's "Can-cion" with a "C" before the "i-o-n". In Tagalog "awit".
Growing up in a provincial household is listening to Ilocano songs (and occasional Frank Sinatra and Patti Page pieces) every Saturday morning.

If there are Ilocano readers in this blog, I'm sure they are familiar with "Mayyang" or "Pamulinawen". You can't miss the "Manang Biday" or the background music in almost every the Ilocano wedding reception where every guest or sponsor pin their paper bills (hundreds/thousands in Php or USD) to the respective dress and barong of the bride and groom. It's called "parwad". The song is "Dungdungnguen Kan To".

Photo from vacaranay.multiply.com

Dungdunguen kanto unay unay,
Indayonen kanto iti sinamay
Tultuloden kanto nalumanay
Pagamuanen inka mailibay

Apaman nga inkanto makaturog
Iyabbongkonto ta rupam daytoy paniok.
Tapnon dinakanto kagaten ti lamok
Ken maimasmonto't maturog.

*Annay, pusok, annay, annay,
Nasaem, naut-ut la unay.
Itdem kaniak ta pannaranay
Ta kaasiak a maidasay.

It tells about so much devotion/affection to a loved one which can be fatal. Not bad for a wedding song, eh! It's similar to  "Too Much Love Will Kill You". Even a lowly mosquito was mentioned. ("Tapno dinakanto kagaten ti lamok").Instead of mosquito repellant, a hanky is used to cover the face of the partner. They don't have "OFF Lotion" before. So if it's not dengue, a heart disease can put a toll for too much love. ("Annay pusok" - "Ouch my heart").

Christmas season in the Philippines starts in the first "ber" month and it's common to hear some Christmas tunes AM or FM. Love this Ilocano "Joy to the World".It's so funny. Lyrics talk about the joy of a person who loves to chew betel nut.Old Ilocano folks love chewing betel nut on pepper leaf with lime.  It's an alternative to smoking, I guess. Love it! (the song I mean)

Joy to mama
Gawed ken bua
Adda pay apog na
Ngalngalem ket ngalngalem
Ngalngalem ket ngalngalem
Samonto itupra
Samonto itupra
Kitaem, kitaem
Nalabbaga!

photo from qwikstep.eu
I don't know if this is an accurate translation. (Joy in a concoction of betel nut and pepper leaf with lime. Keep on chewing. Keep on chewing. Then spit  it out. Then spit it out. Look! Look! It's red!) Haaayst! My translation is horrible.

UP Pep Squad

As I watched with wonder the performance of the UP Pep Squad at the UAAP 2011 Cheerdance Competition, I was also thinking, "Great wigs! They didn't fall off!"

Here's the link to the clearest video I found on youtube:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efKkIpd0df8)

Then I saw these photos, and ok, I might as well have been born yesterday.  They were real!  They did dye their hair blonde!

Those from UP must be very proud.  Congratulations UP Pep Squad!  Astonishing moves!

Hunger Games

If there is anything that really thrills me, it's being hooked on a book and later on finding out that it's going to be made into a movie.

Today, I found out from my sister that a movie teaser for Hunger Games, which will be shown March 2012,  has finally been released.  (I guess a couple of weeks ago, so this is not really new.)  The teaser is very short, and leaves much to be anticipated.

It's funny, the first comment I saw on this youtube video summarizes my sentiment.  I quote:  "They better not screw up with the movie. If they do I think people may start a riot."  Haha.

rooms

I have this childhood penchant for houses with plenty of rooms .There are only four of us in the family and most of the time, my sibling and I are away from home (in the province). Also, my mother (+) used to tell us, "mahirap maglinis pag marami kwarto". But she doesn't say the same thing when it comes to her garden. She attends to it every morning, to the extent of getting sick every cool "ber" months.

In my "escapades" a few weeks ago, I came across different rooms, from simple to grand!

First, there is this house in a posh village in Bulacan that "quite" caught my attention although I wasn't able to explore the entirety of the house due to lack of time. The house is big with about 5 or 6 bedrooms (because I have not seen the one from the roofdeck. Allegedly it's the guestroom). They have one music/entertainment room with a mini-theater, set of percussions, electric guitars, keyboard, etc. They also have a playroom showcasing collection of toys. It has 2 kitchens (the one inside is seldom used I think, kasi di amoy maanta and the sink is surprisingly "drryyy???"). Hay! Plenty of rooms and spaces to clean! That's the downside. But I'm sure the owners can hire even 10 cleaners/maids to do the cleaning.

Second house is in a more "recluse" area outside the posh district. It's surrounded by greenery which reminds me of home!!!  It's situated near the riverbank. The owners' banca is still there. BH told me that the head of the family used to fish from the river and sent their kids to school through it. All the kids are now professionals. It has a kubo outside where it's so tempting to lie down on the "papag" or relax in a hammock while the gentle breeze from the river lull you to sleep! Good life. . . Stress free! It has 3 rooms, and 2 kitchens. It is so simple so mas madaling maglinis. But like I mentioned earlier, the garden is bigger and more difficult to clean. Ayyyy, I really miss home...

Last, is the house fronting a vacant lot with greenery, a huge garage and a wide terrace. It has 3 rooms and 2 T&Bs, 2 kitchens. What I love best is the terrace which is just right for family gatherings. The owners placed a bench in the terrace, perhaps intended for their afternoon coffee or for watching sunset. Oooh, I'd love putting a wooden swing  similar to the one below.

google image
Or this...

google image

Feeling celebrity talaga....!

Anyway, what really amused me in the last house I visited is this room! This is the third room. The owners are parents of achievers. WhoooW!
Wohooo! As of last inventory (September 2011), total number : 135. These are the combined medals of the owners' two kids. NOTE, both are still in college. Which means, madadagdagan pa yan! They had their schooling for primary years in the PI, their secondary in UAE and college both in UP. Whew! Malupet! If I have a room similar to this, I don't mind cleaning everyday! Lalo na pag trophy yan for winning Ms. Photogenic! Hahahaha!

are you a Belieber?

I remember when I first noticed this kid becoming so popular, I asked Z, "Sino ba itong si Justin Beaver?"  Of course, Z seized the chance to okray to the max!  "Anong Beaver?  Bieber! Hello!"

Alright, maybe I never really became a Belieber.  Not that he irritates me, but I just am not affected at all.  I never got it, even after watching some music videos of him, or even watching videos of live concerts of him (just clips though), I really don't get it.

I could not resist noticing though when I see boys or even men with the Justin Bieber hair.

Pacman had this haircut once.

Even Albus Severus Potter, the son of Harry Potter!  This is so cute though.  Imagine, there are Beliebers in the wizarding world!

Oh, Justin Bieber, you're not even 20 and yet you're this influential!

Now, Justin baby is collaborating with Boyz II Men on the kid's upcoming Christmas Album.  I am really curious about this...

And I saw these tweets of Justin Bieber (yeah, I follow him, but only because I find it interesting, and just the same way I follow Paris Hilton, Perez Hilton, jabjimenez, that is, #walalang)

"2day i woke up and realized that the group that made me want to sing @BoyzIIMen are now on the christmas album singing with me. #DREAMBIG"

"i used 2 listen to their music and practice the runs.  that is how i learned how to sing. now im in the studio with them making music 2gether"

"im tellin gyou...never say never...never stop dreaming...never give up. #DREAMBIG. @BoyzIIMen Im honored and blessed. thank u."
Whoa! This is Justin Bieber?  Big inspirational words coming from a boy under 20.  So maybe that's why there are a lot of Beliebers out there.

bwahaha!  (obiter:  i used to hate "bwahaha" -- a term which is often sent to me as a reply-text by a friend ---  now i realize it's value . . ."bwahaha" is different from my preferred "wahaha"  because "bwahaha" seems more of "pang-asar funny" rather than just "funny" . . .  hehehe!  . . .errr, as opposed to "hehehe,"  "wahaha" is like the ROTFL emoticon/smiley (Rolling Out on The Floor Laughing) while "hehehe" is plain laughing)

i do not likewise fathom the level of "beliebing" the beaver . . . este the bieber . . . perhaps not my generation?! (medyo pang miley cyrus na kasi ako. . . haha!) . . . but this, one . . . natatawa ako for some reason . . .

i do not see any justifiable reason, not even love, to have your boyfriend or even your husband's name permanently etched on your skin (no offense meant to those with contrary position) . . . mas understandable pa sa akin yung tattoo na name ng anak or coordinates of birth places of children like angelina jolie's . . . but magic marker (read: easily erasable) . . .wahaha, ano kaya ang feeling ni justin beiber?!  bwahaha!

i am super sleepy and it's a little past midnight . . . my coffee break and i am just waiting for caffeine to kick in and battle with microsoft 's excel again . . . (which is another story, sakit ng tyan ko kanina kakatawa with Y dahil sa excel na yan) . . . i thought i was about to save $10 for a dummy book on sale and maybe another $20-30 for shipping via johnny air because Y transformed into an IT expert-cum-hacker this afternoon and brilliantly shared her excel masterpiece . . . only to realize there's a "glitch" . . . bwahaha . . .so good luck to me . . . craving for skyflakes condensada, another of Y's discoveries . . . (i originally thought it was iwi but as the saying goes . . . don't knock it until you've tried it) . . .bye-o!

Y and Z, Just the hair, and only the hair.Mas okay sya tingnan ngayon. During the "ooh baby, baby, oooh" days, i recall DS planning to grow his hair kapareho ni Bieber. Di nag-materialize of course because of the kontrabidang X. Hahaha! Anyway, it looks good on Justin. But I don't like the choice of pants lang!
