As we entered the venue, "that" familiar canine scent greeted us. The smell of dog shampoo and powder! I saw DS sniffing like I did following the source of that familiar scent. Hahaha!
Participants came from Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Malaysia, Korea,Singapore, etc. Of course Philippine entries had their share of best in breed.
The Siberian Huskies paraded donning their well-maintained coats and were very lovely to look at with their fox-like tail and expressive eyes. Surprisingly, an entry from Philippines won in this special breed level. An Asian looking lady got so excited and was clapping as she spoke on her native tongue when her entry qualified.
Of course, there were the usual small breed toying and sporting dogs. Particularly interesting is the poodle that was groomed to look like a walking cotton candy (it looks so huggable by the way).
and the Yorkie (yorkshire terrier) with shiny hair-like "gandang-hiyang-or-rebonded-rejoice-rich" do. Whew! I imagine the groomer spending hours to get that perfect look for the cute little dog. It's not fur Ma, it's hair!
In the all breed category, they showcased different breeds-from the most popular Shih-tzu to the very rare Swiss Shepherd dog. I even saw an Afghan hound trotting with it's owner outside the ring. The Pekingese were in their usual "brat" stares. But they're so lovely to look at with their groomed fur. They look like guinea pigs. Their eyes are covered with long "bangs". By the way, a Pekingese took the Best in Show title in the recent Westminster Dog Show. Last 2011, it was a Scottish Deer Hound.
I feel sorry for one Rottweiler though. The handler was asked to step out as his rott's tail wasn't docked. The judge was too choosy but I thought it's unfair. It's the rott's natural appearance, so why alter, right. Well, the show may have some rules I'm not aware of. But I feel sorry for the rott. By the way, my youngest rott isn't tail-docked too. He's getting bigger and heavier at 3 months.
The show is sponsored by PCCI or Philippine Canine Club Incorporated. It's not very often that the Philippines host an international dog show. So, the "revolutionary project" of X had to be moved.
